In the afternoon, the temperatures rise to an average of 31°C, while at night, they fall to a comfortable average of 18°C, which makes for perfect weather to swim and sunbathe during the day and to go out in the evening. As a rule, August 8th is historically the hottest day of the year with a daytime high of 31°C and a nighttime low of 19°C. After this day, the temperatures tend to decrease slightly toward the end of the month. As a result, August 31st has a high temperature of 29°C and a low of 18°C. In terms of total rainfall, August in Magaluf comes in as the second driest month, after July. In this case a total of only 10mm of precipitation hits the beaches of Magaluf throughout the month and there are only 4 days with rainfall. That being said, the chance that rainfall occurs increases significantly in the course of August. For example, August 1st is the driest day of the month with a chance of rainfall of only 12%, while precipitation is most likely on August 31st, with a 21% chance. Also during this hot month, the most common type of rainfall is thunderstorms and they occur on no less than 52% of all days with rainfall. Secondly moderate rain, drizzle and light rain may occur as well, but are far less common, recorded respectively on 24%, 12% and 11% of the rainy days.
A reason for this increase in rainfall is without a doubt the increase in cloud cover. While August 1st is the clearest day of the month with a 23% cloud cover, August 31st is the cloudiest with a cloud cover of 29%. However, the skies in August are still extremely clear by all accounts. For example, a typical day is clear or mostly clear 67% of the time and overcast or mostly cloudy only 6% of the time. Similarly the sky is partly cloudy 18% of the time. So, it can be concluded that, in August, rainfall tends to occur as short occasional thunderstorms.
August in Magaluf is also characterised by gradually shortening days. Firstly, August 1st is the longest day of the month and has 14.12 hours of daylight. Secondly, August 31st is the shortest day with 13.04 daylight hours. This means that each day is 2.2 minutes shorter than the day before.
Despite this slight increase in cloud cover and the shortening of the days, August is an incredibly sunny month. There are a brilliant 12 hours of sunshine per day on average. Compared to July which has sunnier days, but only by one hour. June’s days are similarly sunny.
